Rick Springfield Reveals Brain Damage Diagnosis From Fall 25 Years Ago

When we have an accident, we sometimes just move on with life quickly. It may seem as if we are fine, but you never know when the issue is going to come back to haunt you later.

One person who knows this very well is 75-year-old Rick Springfield. Most people know him because of his music, but he is also an actor and he has many loyal fans.

Recently, the musician has opened up about a health discovery that is more than two decades old. He was giving an interview at the time when he talked about being diagnosed with brain damage. This resulted from a fall that he had some 25 years ago.

He said: “I fell 25 feet, hit my head, and then wood came down and hit my head, and then my head hit the stage again. On the scan I found out I have some brain damage from the fall, so I’m working on trying to repair that.”

This happened in 2001 when he was performing in Las Vegas. It happened while starring in the production EFX at the MGM Grand Hotel.

He was in the second show at the time and it was one of the final scenes when the 80s rock star was on a 20-foot high beam. He was supposed to be lowered to the stage but he fell around 15 feet and landed on the floor right from the audience. He thought that he had broken a wrist at the time but a more recent MRI showed that there was some significant damage.

Springfield continues to remain positive and takes proactive measures to help his health. This includes trying ketamine therapy. He was hoping it would open his brain.

He also feels that managing his alcohol has helped. In addition, his experiences in the past using LSD seem to have provided some benefits in some ways.

At this point, Springfield is trying to do what he can for his health. He also thinks back to the death of his father in 1981, as it reminded him about the importance of looking into health issues rather than ignoring them.

He said: “Dad died from not wanting to know. He thought he had stomach cancer for years and never got it checked out. When he finally collapsed one day at home, they found out it was an ulcer that burst, and he died from the loss of blood. It could have been fixed if he had gotten it checked out.

“That was a giant message to me: If you want to live long, you have to be prepared for some bad news now and then. I could find out I have terminal cancer tomorrow and be dead in a year, but I can only do all I can do.”
