Kelly Clarkson may be famous as a singer, but she is also known as a mother of two children. Like many mothers, especially working mothers, she has struggled when it comes to attending school events.
Clarkson would like to be able to attend every event in person but she finds that it can be challenging at times. She has a busy work schedule and keeping everything balanced is difficult, especially when advance notice is not given.
Recently, she was giving an interview and spoke about her frustrations with some of the school events. This led to a debate online, including some teachers who were weighing in and expressing frustration on her perspective on the planning of those events.
Recently, Clarkson was on the ‘Not Gonna Lie’ podcast and she was frustrated. It occurred on the March 27 episode when she spoke about her issues with student events being scheduled in the middle of the workday.
She said: “Why do schools have things in the middle of the f***ing day?”
The host then went on to talk about the challenge of attending new school events when they are held in the middle of the day. She said: “I don’t know when the school systems thought it would be a good plan for families and their emotional stability to start having performances at 10 a.m. during the week.”
Clarkson also spoke about the lack of advance notice that makes it hard to keep a balance in all of her responsibilities. She said: “This just in: A lot of us work! And surprising you with it! Not giving you an advance, so you can at least tell your work, ‘Hey, I’m gonna need this morning off’”
She also spoke about how it was difficult emotionally when a parent is not able to attend an event. She said: “Our kids don’t understand, and we just look like a**holes when we’re not there.
“Then they go, ‘Why was this mom there?’ And then you have to say, ‘Because that kid got a better mom.”
After this post went live, many people were commenting, and not everybody agreed with Clarkson. This includes some former teachers who understood her point of view, but said that no teacher wanted to stay after school when they were not getting paid for it.
Others were more blunt, saying that they agreed but if they wanted the events in the evening when they were getting paid, they better start paying them more.
